In addition to multiple public and private-driven R&D and technology transfers (see Projects), Prof. Fierrez initiated in 2006 the startup "Flaw Evaluation Technologies S.L." together with David Galbally and Marcos del Puerto, focused in signal analysis for industrial applications. The initiative won 6 National Awards (to best idea, best business plan, or best new company), for a total of ca. 42 k€ cash prizes. Soon after starting the company, Prof. Fierrez left it to focus on academic research. The company doesn’t exist now, but it was the seed for two successful companies, one on Robotics (ROBOMOTION), and the other one on data and signal analysis for industrial applications (INNOMERICS).
